Processing aid keeps blown film clear Excellent film clarity in blown film processing is the main advantage of Viton@’ FreeFlowm, claims manufacturer DuPont Dow Elastomers. The company says that as a fluoroelastomer-based additive in the extrusion of polyolefin resins, Viton FreeFlow eliminates melt fracture at high outputs, reducing production costs. The increase in fracture-free output gives plastics processors more flexibility in production by expanding the processing window that the extruder can operate within. According to DuPont Dow Elastomers, as little as

R C Mann introduces low molecular weight resin modifiers

200ppm of Viton FreeFlow added to high-performance olefin copolymer resins allows film converters to increase output without causing melt fracture or ‘shark skin’ in applications such as extruded tube or film.

US manufacturer of speciality resins R C Mann Chemical has introduced the RC 1000 series of low molecular weight, styrene maleic anhydride resins that can be used as a resin modifier in plastics. The RC 1000 series of resins includes RC 1010 - a 1600 molecular weight resin with a 1-to- 1 ratio of styrene to maleic anhydride - while RC 1020 is a 1700 molecular weight resin with a 2-to- 1 ratio. RC 1030 has a molecular weight of 1900 and contains a 3-to- 1 ratio of styrene to maleic anhydride. The company says that each

There are four families of Viton Free Flow processing aids. The latest products include Viton FreeFlow SC and Viton FreeFlow RC, which have been specifically designed for use in polymers with high interactions. Contact: DuPont Dow Elastomers Tel: +1302 732 4347

resin in the RC 1000 series features good colour, uniform melt range and a narrow molecular weight distribution. R C Mann Chemical adds that it will shortly be able to provide the capability to produce additional styrene maleic anhydride resins that are specific to customers’ applications.
