productsand services Program time cut A US-based company has released its Fast Programming (FE’) development system which cuts programming time by a factor of ten. FP is written in c and is a generator tool aimed at inhouse application development. FP includes a B + tree index facility, a field independent record management system, a complete set of runtime utilities, a library of c routines and several C program generators. Available for PC/DOS, Xenix on the IBM PC AT and Unix V on the AT&T 3B2/3BS computer systems, FP costs $995 for the site licence. Automatic applications US company ‘Transform Logic Corporation has introduced software which automates application development and maintenance. Called Transform, the product line includes Transform IMS, TransformKICS and Transform/Batch. The packages produce structured applications systems in standard IBM COBOL. Since it is nonprocedural, it does not require use of a high-level language.

Transform-generated applications are compatible with existing applications and databases in IBM MVS environments. Aimed at users who have a good understanding of application requirements, system design principles and IMS or CICS, Transform comprises two parts: the Schema Management System (SMS) and the Application Management System (AMS). SMS allows
the designer control over how an application is defined in its environment. It is an online CICS or IMS DC application. AMS on the other hand is an expert system which generates the application. By using the rule file and schema database it processes data. TransformKICS accepts requirements of business applications directly from analysts specifications and using those requirements, it automates the internal design, programming and installation programs produced on IBM standard COBOL. Operating in a CICSi DL-1 environment, BMS macros, DBDs and PSBs are
also generated. Transform/ IMS operates in a DBiDC environment in IBM standard COBOL. Transform/Batch programs share the same architecture. Database loads, input edits and selection programs of different types and purpose can be accommodated. The Transform product line is being tested at a number of beta sites in the USA including American Express, Cummins Engine and McDonnell Douglas. The perpetual licence fees for typical configurations start at $225000. (Transform Logic Corporation, 8502 East Via de Ventura, Scottsdale, AZ 85258, USA. Tel: (602) 948 2600) q
