60 PROGRESSIONOF MYOCARDIAL ISCHEMIA FROM ENDOCARDIUMTO EPICARDIUM AFTER CORONARYOCCLUSION ASSESSED BY NADH FLUORESCENCEPHOTOGRAPHY. Y. Taira, H. Kanaide, M. Nakamura. Research Institute of Angiocardiology and Cardiovascular Clinic, Kyushu University Medical School, Fukuoka, Japan Cross-sectional distribution of myocardial ischemia in acute coronary occlusion was assessed by NADH fluorescence photography. Rat hearts were perfused by Langendorff's technique and regional ischemiawasinduced by ligation of the left coronary artery. After ligation, hearts were frozenatlo, and60secondsand freeze-dried. Cross-section of the myocardium of control rats revealed no NADH fluorescence. In ischemic hearts, NADH fluorescence appeared on the endocardial half of myocardium at10 seconds, and ontransmural myocardium at60seconds. NADH content of endocardialhalf determinedbybiochemical analysis increased earlier than that of epicardial half, the time course of which seemingly correlated with that of cross-sectional NASH fluorescence. We conclude that ischemia developes from endocardium to epicardium in acute coronary occlusion in rats.

DECREASE IN MYOCARDIAL PH AFTER PARTIAL OCCLUSION OF CORO NARY ARTERY AND THE EFFECT OF NITROGLYCERIN AND DIPYRIDAT. Shibano, Y. Abiko. MOLE ON IT. Department of Pharmacology, Asahikawa Medical College, Asahikawa, Japan In dogs anesthetized with pentobarbital, pH and pO2 of the left ventricular wall were continuously recorded. LAD was occluded so that the blood flow could be reduced to about l/3 the original flow (partial occlusion). Before partial occlusion, the pH and pO2 were 7.64 and 16.9 mmHg, respectively. After partial occlusion, the pH and p0 decreased by about 0.7 and 7.5 mmHg, respectively. Nigroglycerin (20 )Ig/kg, i.v.) or dipyridamole(250pg/kg, i.v.) was injected 30 min after partial occlusion of the LAD. Dipyridamole did not affect both pH and p0 nitroglycerin restored the pH incompletely withou fecting the p0 . It is concluded that dipyridamole does not but nitrog 1ycerin does restore myocardial pH that has been reduced by partial occlusion of the LAD, though the restoration is incomplete.
