Vinylidene fluoride copolymers are well known because of their unique characteristics. We have been developing useful vinylidene fluoride copolymers which have optical properties, ferroelectricity and water repellency for several uses, as seen in the following Table: TABLE.

For polymeric optical fibers (POF), very low attenuation values, 120 - 150 dB/Km, are required for modern data communication use. New POF cladding materials have been developed by combining VLIF, TrFE, TFJ3 and hexafluoroacetone (HFA) for high quality POF. We report the manufacturing process and properties of these vinylidene fluoride copolymers as POF cladding materials and other uses.
