FOCUS Orgasol powders and the fine powders additives segment of the Rilsan fine powder product line. Orgasol ultrafine polyamide powders are direct polymerization polymers and copolymers of lauryllactam (PA 12) and/or caprolactam (PA 6), which have a unique spherical shape and very narrow particle size distribution. Orgasol powders are used in formulations for the coatings, graphic arts, composites, and powder metallurgy markets. Akzo sells N American decorative paints division Akzo Nobel is selling its decorative paints business in N America for $1.1 bn. The company will concentrate on its much larger European business and on rapidly growing emerging countries. The purchaser is PPG Industries. The business had sales of $1.5 bn in 2011. Akzo will remain active in N America in other segments such as coatings for automobiles, aircraft and ships, where sales are $2.5 bn. The purchased firm manufactures and supplies PVC powder coatings for fabricated metals, including fencing and dishwasher racks. Thermoclad’s other activities include development of paints and other thermoplastics, such as nylon and copolyesters. The company has liquid and powder production operations in Erie, PA, USA.
