Pump controller with fieldbus communications BOC Edwards’ Turbo and Instrument Controller (TIC) is now available with a Profibus communications module, the company says. The fieldbus option is said to provide OEMs and end-users with the advantages of digital multi-drop communications in one rack or DIN-mountable unit.

The TIC available with a new module.

TIC is an advanced vacuum system controller which can be used to control a series of vacuum pumps and up to three active gauges. More and more manufacturers, laboratories and research establishments are converting to fieldbus communications to take advantage of reduced cabling and networking equipment costs, BOC Edwards claims. Research by the company showed Profibus to be the most popular fieldbus choice among their customers in a wide range of coating, process and laboratory applications. The Profibus module is a compact unit 128 x 117 x 30 mm (5 x 4.6 x 1.2 inches) and is rack or DIN rail mounted to suit and can be used in both new and retrofit applications.

Milton Roy launches pump controller Milton Roy UK has introduced a new pump controller which can provide accurate dosing in applications requiring automated and proportional pumping. The Varipulse controller has been developed for use with Milton Roy GA and GM series dosing pumps, which are usually used for water, wastewater, surface and chemical treatment applications, the company says. The new interactive device enables proportional control of pump flow rate in relation to digital or analogue signals and features a simple and clear LCD screen and 3 additional operating modes, the company says. The controller operation is based upon vector voltage

control electronics which compensate for variations in power supply voltage by adjusting and generating a voltage and frequency to control a threephase motor through a series of starts, without compromising performance over the entire operating range. Two versions are available: a simple frequency variation version, or one with seven interactive operating modes with LCD screen, manual stroke speed, proportional stroke speed by analogue signal, manual speed frequency or automatic control by analogue signal, external trigger by pulse, batch or calibration.

Choke valve trim from Severn Glocon Severn Glocon has introduced a new choke valve trim specifically designed to cope with the significant pressure drop inherent in wellhead start-up, whilst also providing minimum flow restriction during production, the company says. The MP trim can be used with new Severn Glocon globe control valves or retrofitted to existing valve bodies from Severn Glocon or other choke valve manufacturers, the company says. In all cases the MP trim reportedly secures the valve seat without the use of a clamping cage, increasing the seat bore to maximise capacity and throughput. The MP trim consists of two sections. The start-up section, comprising approximately the first 30% or so of travel and determined by the well

pressure/flow profile, directs the flow through ports designed to impart significant friction on the fluid, resulting lower velocities and reduced pressure recovery characteristics, Severn says. Valve noise, erosion and vibration can be reduced, increasing the operating life of the choke. The MP trim can also ensure high capacity when the pressure drop has reduced in production by maximising the flow area in the inlet body cavity, through the trim and in the valve outlet section. It is one of a range of three new choke trim designs from Severn Glocon, designed to overcome specific operating characteristics in wellhead and associated applications.
