the rate of overweight and morbidity. Among 9774 people surveyed and examined, we selected 3445 men and 4765 women over 20 years old. The variables assessed were serum fasting glucose, triglyceride, HDL-cholesterol, blood pressure, and BMI. The BMI classification was 18.5-22.9, 23.024.9, 25.0-29.9 and 30, respectively for normal weight, overweight, obese I, and II. The overweight, obesity I, and II rates were 24.6 %, 23.4% and 1.8% in men and 21.2%, 24.9% and 3.2% in women, respectively. The morbidity rate was evaluated by the prevalence of diabetes mellitus, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, serum triglyceride higher than 150 mg/dl, and HDL-cholesterol lower than 40 mg/dl for men (50 for women) at each BMI category. There was a sharp increase in the morbidity rate after BMI of 23, and even further sharp increases after BMI of 25 and 30 in both men and women. This study showed that about 50% of South Korean adults had BMI over 23, and the morbidity rates were high among the overweight people. The new WHO classification alerts South Korean adults about the seriousness of overweight, and the obesity-related diseases in this country. TITLE: RANDOM ACTS OF WELLNESS: A WELLNESS PROGRAM INITIATIVE AND A CELEBRATION OF NATIONAL NUTRITION MONTH AUTHOR(S): J.T. Brooks, PhD, RD, Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilanti, MI LEARNING OUTCOME: To increase awareness of creative ways to celebrate National Nutrition Month and promote wellness. TEXT: This program report describes a unique approach to celebrating wellness and National Nutrition Month on the campus of a Midwestern university. A week of activities titled “Random Acts of Wellness” was dedicated to self-discovery and exploration in the six dimensions of wellness: spiritual, emotional, physical, intellectual, social, and environmental. Over 50 activities including 5-minute chair massages, ballroom dancing, a session on overcoming burnout, free classes at the campus fitness facility, and musical events were offered throughout the week to support the growth and development of the participants in the dimensions of wellness. Faculty and staff selected from a “menu” of activities offered throughout the week, charted their participation, and categorized their activities into the applicable dimensions to be eligible for prize drawings. Prizes included many National Nutrition Month items ranging from t-shirts to tote bags. In addition to the 50-plus campus activities taking place during the week, junior and senior dietetic students staffing the Office of Nutrition Services solicited donated food items, including apples, bottled water, soy bars, soy nuts, and freshly baked loaves of whole wheat bread from a local bakery. The students attached nutrition messages to each item as a means of promoting National Nutrition Month. Students then visited buildings across campus, distributing the items at random. Combined with other donated items, the Employee Wellness Committee delivered something to every department on campus. The week's events were well received by the campus community and by the participating students. TITLE: CHANGES IN ADIPOSITY STATUS FROM CHILDHOOD TO YOUNG ADULTHOOD AUTHOR(S): P.R.
