ihe American Astronautical Society (AAS) has awarded Dr Roger-Maurice Bonnet the Advancement of International Cooperation Award for 2006, in recognition of his outstanding contributions in advancing international astronautics activities. This award is the AAS's newest, and was first awarded in 2005 to Conrad C. Lautenbacher, Jr., Administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

The AAS selected Dr Bonnet for this award in recognition of his being the person chiefly responsible for making the integration required for Cassini-Huygens so successful, leading ultimately to the spectacular success of the Huygens probe. The AAS also noted his responsibility for instigating the Mars Express project, and his untiring efforts in supporting international cooperation during his time at ESA.
