The X-ray limit of the gauge is 1 O- to torr, and for stable pressure measurement in this region, the inside of the glass envelope has an electrically conducting layer, to which earth potential is applied, thereby collecting excess primary electrons. Other design features include low filament power consumption, and twin tungsten filaments. The gauge ion gauge

drive

Vacuum Generators Ltd. announce a new miniature rotary motion drive, mounted on a standard 34 mm OD FC vacuum flange. The RD91 is built to exacting standards to ensure true U.H.V. performance, with a pressure range of 760 torr to 10 -I1 torr. Based on the proven bellows sealed drive principle of other VG drives, the compactly designed RD91 will find many applications where space is restricted. Full 360” rotation is available, and the lockable top cap is graduated in 5” divisions, whilst the maximum operating speed is 500 r.p.m. The drive is of all welded stainless steel construction and may be baked to 25O’C. The overall length of the RD91 is 192 mm with the overall body diameter being 46.5 mm. It is fully compatible with all other members of the miniature VG component range. distillation

In recent years, interest has been steadily growing in the commercial use of centrifugal high vacuum molecular distillation for separating mixtures of organic or silicone compounds which are thermally sensitive to conventional atmospheric and low pressure distillation techniques. CVC Scientific Products Inc., have developed a new, relatively inexpensive laboratory model designed primarily for investigative process studies. Now available through CVC’s British subsidiary, to operate, batch or continuous process system maintaining exacting performance standards.

LAB 5 is a simple capable of

Like all CVC high vacuum stills, LAB 5 works on the ‘short path’ principle involving a much shoter thermal exposure time and lower distilling temperatures than are possihle by conventional distillation techniques. As a result, it can separate with complete safety, and to a very high degree of purity, a wide range of thermally sensitive organic and silicone compounds in the molecular weight range 150 to 4000, and the vacuum range l-80 Fm. Such compounds include vitamins, epoxy resins, highly concentrated pure fatty acid esters, polymerized fatty acids, plasticisers, fatty acid nitrogen compounds and many other heat sensitive materials which may require only deoderizing and decolourizing. LAB 5 is a sturdy, modular system with a throughput capacity of 2 Ibs h-t. It employs very little glassware; only the simple belljars used for feeding material to the distillation point and for collecting residue, and the rotor housing which also acts as the condensing surface, are, in fact, made of glass. The pumping system incorporates a modern 2-h-r. metal diffusion pump with thermistor gauging. CVC Scientific Products Ltd Circle number 34 on Reader Enquiry Service card 248

Leybold-Heraeus new TR 205 gauge head, for use with the Thermovac range of thermal conductivity vacuum gauges, can be baked out at 400°C. without removing measuring head or cable and is therefore suitable for ultra-high-vacuum applications. As with all Thermovac gauge heads, the sensing element can be easily removed and a new low-cost replacement fitted. This new head is connected to the vacuum system by means of an NW 16 CF UHV vacuum flange. This new bakeable head extends the range of applications of all Leybold-Heraeus’ Thermovac, Combitron and Combivac gauges for fine vacuum measurements in UHV systems.
