Abstract for this article http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.juro.2015.05.045 available at http://jurology.com/ Editorial Comment: The author reviewed the medical records of all children 0 to 16 years old at her institution who were diagnosed with S. aureus urinary tract infection (UTI) between 2001 and 2013, and compared them to patients with Escherichia coli UTIs. She found that children with S. aureus had higher rates of abnormal findings on ultrasound, more abnormal voiding cystourethrograms and more frequent vesicoureteral reflux. In addition, the median duration of hospitalization for children with S. aureus was longer than for those with E. coli. The author suggests that while S. aureus is a relatively uncommon pathogen in UTI, when it occurs, children should probably undergo voiding cystourethrography despite the new American Academy of Pediatrics guidelines.
