Hydrogenolysis of C,--F bonds has been performed by the reaction of perfluoroaromatic compounds with Zn(Cu) in aqueous dimethylformamide. For example, 4-H-heptafluorotoluene has been obtained from octafluorotoluene, and 4-H-tetrafluoropyridine from pentafluoropyridine. zn(cu) F3C

50% DMF+H20

zn(cu) 4 1% DMF+H20

The reactions of pentafluorochlorobenzene and 3-chloro-2,4,5,6-tetrafluoropyridine with zinc in solvents afforded the corresponding organo-zinc compounds. Ztl
