is an interesting new approach to the synthesis of chiral solids. Graham J. Hutchings

Recent Zeolite Papers A new titanium aluminophosphate molecular sieve with the ATS structure (TAPO-36) has been reported [M. ZahediNieke et al., J. Chem. Soc., Chem. Commun. (1996) 47]. Successful synthesis can be achieved in the range of Ti incorporation between 0.04
applied catalysis A: General

drocarbons are used, e.g., octane and lower hydrocarbons, e.g., propane and pentane were ineffective under similar conditions. Tuel et al. [J. Chem. Soc., Chem. Commun. (1996) 651] have reported new zirconium-containing mesoporous silicas using hexadecylamine as surfactant. They demonstrate the efficacy of these materials as catalysts for liquid phase oxidation using H202 and alkyl peroxides as oxidants for aniline, cyclohexane, norbornylene. The activities of the zirconium containing materials are shown to be similar to the analogous titanium containing material. Graham J. Hutchings

Recent Fischer-Tropsch Synthesis Review Maitles et al. [J. Chem. Soc., Chem. Commun. (1996) 1] have written a review entitled 'Heterogeneous catalysis of C-C bond formation: black art or organometallic science?' Against this broad topic they examine the evidence for Fischer-Tropsch synthesis for C-C bond formation from CO/H2. They conclude that bridges may now be built between the reactions occurring on a heterogeneous catalyst surface and those occurring on well characterised metal complexes, as well as those that occur under high vacuum conditions on well-defined single metal crystals.
