Gulden Ophthalmics has introduced spectacles that are red and green reversible slip-ins. They are manufactured from optically clear plastic, and the colors are specifically matched to cancel each other. They are designed for pediatric and adult testing, to be used in connection with the Worth 4 Dot and the Beren’s Three Character tests, This product was conceived to keep red and green spectacles on the active pediatric patient. They are kept in place by their own weight and held by the patients’ own glasses temples. For further information, contact Gulden Ophthalmics at 215-884-8105.
LASIK eye model
The LASIK eye model from Gulden Ophthalmics is plastic, 14.5 cm in diameter, and realistically colored and textured. It is designed primarily for patient education in LASIK (laser-assisted in-situ keratomileusis) surgery. Many patients find current explanations about LASIK surgery hard to follow and may be apprehensive about procedures they do not understand. This model of the human eye allows the doctor or technician to familiarize the patient with the procedure and demonstrate what the surgical effect will be on the focal length of the eye and how acuity is improved through surgery. Helveston
scleral marking
ruler
Dr. Eugene M. Helveston of Indianapolis, Indiana, has designed a simple scleral ruler for measuring and marking the distance from the limbus to the location for the muscle reinsertion. The ruler conforms to the curvature of the eye and features measuring lines in 1 mm increments. A single tooth at the tip of the ruler is pressed into the sclera to leave an identifying mark for suture placement. It is a very simple and accurate method of marking in the cul-de-sac where access with the Castroviejo caliper is often difficult.
