New Patents the heat transfer effectiveness. Because the baffle is cooled, its temperature remains close to that of the finned tubing. This protects the baffle and el/minates differential expansion which could cause the baffle to fall offor loosen during operation.
4901787 REGENERATIVE HEAT EXCHANGER AND SYSTEM Bruce L Zornes assigned to Balanced Engines Inc A regenerative heat exchanger in which a compact arrangement of alternating thermally conductive and thermally insulating solid layers have an array of communicating passages therethrough. One of the outer thermally conductive layers is heated and the other is cooled. The intermediate thermally conductive layer(s) has a regenerative function when flow is alternated through the passages. Although each passage is preferably small, the total number of passages in the array is such as to give a large combined cross-sectional area for heat transfer providing improved overall performance and efficiency when incorporated in stirring and other heat engines without sacrificing structural integrity.
4901790 SELF-HEATED DIFFUSER ASSEMBLY FOR A HEAT PIPE Roelf J Meijer assigned to Stirring Thermal Motors Inc A diffuser unit for allowing non-condensing gases collecting within a heat pipe to be eliminated. The embodiments described herein define a cavity for collection ofnon-condensing gases such as hydrogen. The housings are arranged such that the heat pipe working fluid in vapor form transfers heat to the walls of the housing defining the collection cavity to raise the wall temperature thus increasing its permeabifity
to the non-condensing gas. Accordingly, when the heat pipe is used in applications where noncondensing gases such as hydrogen tend to diffuse into the heat pipe such as when it is directly heated by a hydrocarbon combustion, such noncondensing gases can be readily eliminated. Such diffusion of non-condensing gases occurs without the requirement of providing a conventional getter which uses special material for absorbing or breaking down such non-condensing gases. The diffuser assemblies in accordance with this invention are self-regulating and entirely passive in operation, requiring no external heat inputs or control signals.
4901907 HEAT EXCHANGER CORE MADE OF ALUMINUM AND METHOD FOR APPLICATION OF FLUX DURING P R O ~ OF SOLDERING THEREOF Hiroak Enokido, Takayuki Hatanaka, Takashi Kozono, Kanagawa, Japan assigned to Nihon Radiator Co Ltd; Pacific Machinery and Engineering Co Ltd A method for production of a heat exchanger is disclosed, where a powder flux is applied in a process of soldering a heat exchanger core of aluminum. An annular groove is formed in a seat plate. Measures are taken for preventing wetting of the annular groove of the seat plate when sprayed with the water on the preassembled core, such that a non-corrosive flux would not adhere to the annular groove of the seat plate. Water is sprayed in the form of a mist on a preassembled heat exchanger core through plurality of spray nozzles. The annular grooves of the seat plates are thoroughly dried after the application of water for attaining a perfect absence of residual non-corrosive flux in the annular grooves of the seat plates, A non-corrosive flux powder is sprayed onto the preassembled heat exchanger core of aluminum with a powder spray gun. The non-corrosive flux is caused to adhere fast to the portion wetted with the water.
