Registry Review in Computed Tomography Daniel N. De Maio Philadelphia, PA: W. B. Saunders, 1996, 227 pages, $18.50 This is an excellent review book for the advanced level examination in computed tomography. The book is comprised of eight chapters in which simulated examinations are comprehensively presented. The questions are clearly posed and consist of a multiple choice sampling of the areas to study. The introduction gives a breakdown of the test: explaining the areas to be covered, addressing the length of the test, and the number of questions to be answered. The numerous computed tomographic images are of good quality and the anatomical structures are easily identifiable. The answer key to each question gives a good explanation of the correct answer and this is excellent help in the preparation for this type of examination. LINDA SANATAR.

Fundamentals ofChest Radiology provides an excellent primer on chest radiology for medical students, radiology residents, and physicians who need a quick reference for diagnostic pathways and radiographic interpretation. The text is clearly and concisely written and facilitates rapid acquisition of basic, practical information regarding radiographic analysis, differential diagnosis, and informed selection of various imaging modalities. The radiographs which accompany this textbook are well chosen; and particularly useful are those illustrating the various aspects of an evolving pathothe annotations are logical process. Furthermore, very helpful-literally pointing out the relevant finding. Included are numerous diagnostic algorithms and tables pointing out and explaining potential radiographic errors. The textbook is strong on providing

“practical” information, emphasizing the most common pathological processes, concise tables of differential diagnoses, and diagnostic “pearls,” which are usually obtained through experience with reading chest films. Of particular importance is Chapter 12 on cardiovascular disease, which provides information, especially useful to the house officer, on catheter placement, pacemaker lead position, and identification of prosthetic cardiac valves as they are shown in the standard radiograph of the chest. In summary, this book achieves its stated goals, which were to help the reader in solving diagnostic radiographic problems. NANCY URBAN, MD CLAUDIA HENSCHKE. PHD, MD PII SOSSS-7071(97)00013-Z

Bone and Joint Imaging. Second Edition Donald Resnick Philadelphia, PA: W. B. Saunders, 1996, 1,329 pages, $136.00 The book is divided into sixteen sections and eightysix chapters, mostly by the author, and gives a complete overview of the imaging of bones and joints. The first section is dedicated to the anatomy, pathology, and physiology of bones and joints: and is a very useful and basic introduction to the chapters dedicated to the various pathological conditions. The second section, dedicated to the different imaging modalities, is probably too synthetic to give a complete overlook of all the imaging techniques. Each of the chapters dedicated to the pathological conditions (sections III-XVI) has a short summary in which the key features of the diseases are briefly summarized. The single chapters are well organized, with a complete discussion, and a correlation of the pathological, clinical, and radiological findings. Each chapter contains a good number of figures of excellent quality. Correlations of X-ray images with anatomical sections are also presented. Very clear tables are present in almost all chapters to further illustrate the pathologic and radiographic data. In other tables are correlated the pathological disorder, the mechanism causing the lesion, and its
