Reichhold builds resin factory in China US RESIN company Reichhold has announced plans to build a resin factory near Tianjin in China. The first phase of the new plant will have a resin capacity of 12 000 tons per year and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2009. The company, which is headquartered in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, USA, has acquired land for the factory in the Tianjin Economic Technological Development Area (TEDA). The plant will be capable of producing unsaturated polyester and vinyl ester resins, gel-coats, and structural adhesives. Reichhold has also opened a new business office and applications lab in Beijing to support the Tianjin plant.

“The market for composites in China continues to expand rapidly, particularly the segments of wind energy, closed moulding, and pollution abatement,” says Reichhold Chief Facility Officer Roger Willis. “The new manufacturing facility in Tianjin will produce the full range of Reichhold composites offerings in support of our strategy to deliver our products and technology consistently to customers worldwide,” says Doug Frey, executive VP, global composites. “While the plant is being constructed, we have contract manufacturing arrangements already in place to support our customers in the interim period.” Reichhold; www.reichhold.com

Polytec acquires Peguform POLYTEC HOLDING AG is acquiring Peguform Group, a leading European supplier of composite parts to the automotive industry, placing Polytec Group in the top 100 suppliers to the global automotive industry. The purchase price has not been disclosed, but the combined annual sales of the two companies are estimated to be €2.2 billion. The acquisition and combination is claimed to strengthen the companies’ global position in the automotive composite market. Polytec Group’s core products are door panels, headliners, engine parts and exterior parts for passenger cars, as well as composites parts for commercial vehicles and passenger cars.

The company, which is based in Hörsching/Linz, Austria, counts BMW, Mercedes and Volkswagen (VW) among its main customers. Peguform, of Bötzingen, Germany, supplies systems and modules for passenger cars. The group’s main products are bumper systems, front-end modules, cockpits and door panels. It supplies parts to car manufacturers such as Seat, Audi, VW and BMW. The acquisition is expected to close at the end of September or beginning of October 2008, subject to the consent of antitrust authorities.
