Apparatus for manufacturing curved bodies of fibre reinforced plastic Hampshire, W3. (Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company) US Pat 3 988 089 (26 October 1976) A stream of fibres is deposited onto a horizontal support to form radii of curvature of the curved body. As the support turns a layer of plastics is deposited over the fibrous layer. A second fibrous layer is then laid circumferentially on the plastics layer, followed by a second plastics layer. Hence a preform is built up of successive layers of fibres and plastics. Method for producing moulded bodies from curable binder-bearing glass fibres Gambill, U.T. and Brock, G.C. Jr., (Owens-Coming Fibreglas Corporation) US Pat 3 988 407(26 October 1976) Method of severing a flex~ie reinforced elastomeric conduit supported on a plurality of elongated end-to-end rigid mandrels Holden, H.N., et al (Dayeo Corporation) US Pat 3 988 409 (26 October 1976) Method of making pipe having a liner layer of mixed resins Woodson, C.S. (Youngstown Sheet and Tube Company) US Pat 3 988 412 (26 October 1976) A method of producing reinforced plastics pipe by positioning a reinforcing cylinder of fibrous material in a cylindrical mould; introducing thermosetting resin into the mould and spinning the mould to form the outer shell of a pipe; and then introducing into the pipe shell a mixture of thermosetting and thermoplastic resins. The pipe is rotated to spread the resins evenly. Method for producing carbon fibres Ogawa, T., Wakita, E. and Kobayashi, T. (Asahi Kasei Kogyo Kabushiki Kaisha) US Pat 3 988 426 (26 October 1976) The method comprises subjecting acrylonitrile polymer fibres to preliminary heat treatment in an oxidative atmosphere at between 180 and 300°C and then carbonization heat treatment at between 700 and 2800°C.
