Correspondence Reply to Comment on Chang and Zhao (2012) ‘‘The Fukushima Nuclear Power Station incident and marine pollution’’

Having considered the comment very carefully, we have to admit that the London Convention does not apply to the Fukushima case. However, we are aware that Japan is a contracting party to the London Convention and is obliged to follow the obligations illustrated by the Convention (as already stated in the paper). Although we did not make it clear that Japan acceded to the 1996 London Protocol in October 2007, this does not affect that fact that Japan is a party to the Convention and should follow the obligations.
