DR. FERGUSON'S SUMMARY OF X-RAY THERAPY

389

more than a statement of delight at the immediate efficacy of the Coutard therapy. I part company with Dr. Ferguson when he affirms that x-ray therapy "cures" tumors of the urinary organs. The records do not support that belief. The doctrine that x-ray therapy to-day is more efficacious than surgery for the control of cancer is pernicious. Dr. Ferguson has recently published another contribution on the same subject in the American Journal of Roentgenology. In it he cites the same 34 cases as emanating from the office of Drs. Keyes and McLellan. Dr. McLellan joins me in denying responsibility for the present conclusions of Dr. Ferguson. 121 E. 60th Street, New York City

REPLY TO DR. KEYES' CRITICISM RUSSELL S. FERGUSON [The galley proof of Dr. Keyes' article was submitted to Dr. Ferguson, who makes the following statement.-Editor.]

February 17, 1938, My dear Dr. Young : I have your letter of February fifth stating that the Editorial Committee of the Journal of Urology has voted to publish Dr. Keyes' criticism of my article on x-ray therapy as correspondence in the Journal. I have read this criticism and wish to thank the members of the Editorial Board and yourself for the opportunity to make a reply. I have no wish to enter into a controversy with either Dr. Keyes or anyone else on this or any other subject. I wish you to publish this letter in the Journal as it constitutes the only reply I care to make. 121 E. 60th Street, New York City
