Reply to “improved postoperative mortality rates after thoracic surgery for lung cancer” [CLM-D-16-00,187] We thank the authors for their favorable comments and informative additions to our work. We agree with their comments about the improvements in the postoperative complications of thoracic lung cancer surgery. The paper by Boffa that they reference was likely an oversight of our PubMed research, but the overall differences in the complication rates of that paper are minimal to what we quoted from others. Unfortunately, the later publication they reference showing better numbers were published after our paper entered review and subsequent publication. This is an inherent problem with the process of submission, review, and subsequent publication—that is new data are published during this process. Even so, we are pleased to have these new data shared with us and our readers.
