Reply to: ‘‘Nail photography— All 10 fingernails in 1 frame’’ To the Editor: We thank Drs Inamadar and Palit for their interest in the methods of nail photography described by us1 and by Ashique and Kaliyadan.2 The photographs shown by them resemble standard textbook images and the need for modification believed by Ashique and Kaliyadan2 and us1 was a result of inability of many patients to achieve that position of hands. Generalized nail changes needing photography of all 10 nails are often associated with joint involvement or are seen in elderly patients many of whom already have joint stiffness. In a smaller group of younger patients without joint morbidity and generalized involvement, their technique is the standard technique of photography, although in such patients, thumbs can be brought in the frame in the technique described by us as well.
