Tsland, were somewhat timid about plunging into the reputedly snow-cooled water. Libby came to the rescue of such a group after the opening night dinner at one of his early meetings. Donning his trunks, he took a test dive for them. Appearing at breakfast the next morning with no sign of incipient pneumonia, he was immediately adopted and became the perennial bellwether of a flock of timid flatlanders. If Libby did, indeed, indulge in these exhibitions, it must have been sheer bravado on his part unless his swimming taste has changed in recent years, for he and R.uth are living, since his retirement last year, not in the Rockies, nor on the rock-bound coast of Maine, but rather in sunn,v Florida with only the warm water of the Gulf of Mexico to challenge him. And now, Dr. Giblin, it is a very real pleasure to present to you on behalf of the American Association of Orthodontists the TXstinguished Service Scroll, an award you most richly deserve.

Response by Dr. Giblin When Paul Reid called to inform me that the Distinguished Service Scroll Committee had chosen me to he the recipient of the award this year I was incredulous. Now that it has become a reality, I am still doubtful but extremely happy. As one reviews the accomplishments of the previous fifteen recipients of this Scroll, he certainly is impressed with the breadth and scope of their activities in behalf of our Association. To have his name added to this list is an esteemed honor. To know that you, my peers, feel me deserving makes me deeply appreciative. Anything concerned with the framework and operation of our Association has always been a challenge to mc. All my activities in behalf of dentistry and our specialty, orthodontics, have returned me more in deep friendships and personal enjoyments that T can acknowledge separately. T would like to mention, however, some of the men who have inspiretl and cn~ouragcd me-Dcwrp, Oliver, Irish, Becks, Brusse, Humphrey, Pollack, Devlin, Anderson, Salzmann, Krogman, Gaston, the McCoys, Sheridan, and Eriksen among many others. Tt is with a profound sense of gratit, udc to these men and to all of you that I accept this Scroll. Thank you, Paul, for your kind remarks in making this presentation. My sincerr thanks to all of you for having so signally honored me. Maya con dios.
