PULTRUSION machines which offer manufacturers caterpillar pullers for operations involving long, continuous pulling of profiles, are being introduced by PTI, a division of MMFG in Ohio, USA. The Pulstar@ Series 2000 machines are designed to encourage traditional manufacturers which generally build their own equipment, to improve their production capabilities by considering caterpillar pullers. Caterpillar pullers are best suited to lower pull speeds and are often pre-

ferred for repetitive pulling of the same profile.

in the Pulstar machines uses two continuous rotating tracks which clamp and pull in a single operation. The puller section has pneumatic clamp cylinders with automatic height adjustment. Pull force is stated as a continuous force measurement, and in caterpillar pullers, pull force is a function of pull speed. Rugged RTM unit improves performance and accuracy AN ACCURATE resin transfer moulding (RTM) unit, designed to improve performance and durability, has been developed by Magnum Industries of Florida, USA. The system features a controlled flow pressure module which allows the user to select exact fluid pressures. The module provides precise control over fluid pressures, maintains high flow rates and eliminates pressure differentials and surges during pumping. The pump on the control flow injection unit uses a fluid section capable of an output of up to 11.3 kg/min. This fluid section is coupled with an air motor that uses a stroke length of 15.24 cm. This stroke length, plus the high output fluid section, results in a slow but smooth

stroke, even at high outputs, which reduces the wear and tear on the seals. The injection head uses an injection block coupled to a dispensing gun. A minimum of moving parts allows for quick, easy flushing at low and high pressures. Magnum also supplies the BOS-300 catalyst slave arm as a standard component on the RTM unit. The catalyst is adjusted using a control wheel, which may be used while the system is in operation. The pumps are precision made claims the company; a polished surface inside the cylinders maintains the catalyst level to within 0.1% accuracy.
