PATENTS furthermore has an arrangement for mounting it over the shaft with the help of suitable fixtures such as screws. The multi-segment sleeve can be mounted over suitably prepared recesses that have a circular or polygonal matching seat area, and can be used twice because of the novel design feature which involves placement positions, and the increased width of the sleeve itself. Hard disk cover-integrated gasket Applicant: Bridgestone Corporation, Japan A cover-integrated gasket for hard disk device is described. The gasket material comprises a thermoplastic elastomer composition, and is fitted in such a way as to provide a cover for a hard disk drive device. It has a multi-stage drawn shape through two or more stages. After forming (integrally) the cover and the gasket, the resulting product structure is heat-treated at a temperature above the crystal fusion temperature or the glass transition start temperature of an adhesive component that is contained in the material forming the gasket, or the cover. The gasket forms a coated layer that comprises a fluoropolymer. The cover-integrated gasket for the hard disk device possesses excellent adhesiveness, excellent productivity, and is airtight. It reduces the penetration and permeability of substances. Patent number: WO 02/061308 Inventors: Y. Imai, T. Utsunomiya, T. Ogata, S. Shibata, T. Hosokawa, N. Mashita, T. Watertight housing for electrical devices Assignees/Inventors: K.W. Rittmann and A.D. Rittmann, USA This invention is for a watertight plastic housing for an electrical device. It has a base, and a lid of a size and shape to be frictioninduced welded to the base. The housing has a fixed male-threaded nipple, which is hollow, and which permits the passage of wires through the housing wall. When the housing base is friction-induced welded to the lid, a washer is externally seated on the nipple. The nipple is inserted into a hole of a junction box, and is secured to the junction box with a nut. The housing and housing-to-junction box substantially provides a watertight seal. Hermetic seals for semiconductor device packages Assignee: Micron Technology Inc, USA This patent provides details of a hermetically sealed package produced by a stereolithographic

fabrication process. The package surrounds at least a portion of a semiconductor die, to protect it. The package may be made from thermoplastic glass, other types of glass, ceramics or metals. Stereolithographic processes are used to fabricate at least a portion of the package. These processes may be used to form a hermetic package around the semiconductor dice of assemblies, including carrier substrates or leads. Stereolithographic processes also may be used to fabricate the hermetic packages on bare or minimally packaged semiconductor dice, including dice that have yet to be ‘singulated’ from a wafer. Because at least a portion of the hermetic package is stereolithographically fabricated, that part can have a series of superimposed, contiguous, mutually adhered layers of a suitable hermetic material. The layers can be fabricated by consolidated selected regions of a layer of unconsolidated particulate or powdered material, or by defining an object layer from a sheet of material. The stereolithographic method may include the use of a machine vision system including at least one camera that is associated with a computer controlling a stereolithographic application of material, so that the system may recognize the position, orientation and features of a semiconductor device assembly, semiconductor die, or other substrate on which the hermetic package is to be fabricated. Bucket tip brush seals for steam turbines Assignee: General Electric Co, USA A diaphragm has an annular groove formed from deep and shallow grooves, with the deep groove opening into the shallow groove. A combination spill strip/brush seal is suitably placed in the groove. The brush seal comprises a pair of flexible bars secured to the proximal ends of the brush bristles by welding, and is received in the shallow groove and a recess in an axial face of the spill strip. The latter has base portions extending into the deep groove. The combination spill strip/brush seal is secured in the annular groove by peening the material of the diaphragm into the spill strip/brush seal combination. The brush seal may be used with different diameters of spill strips and diaphragm grooves. Patent number: US 6431827 Inventors: E.C. Wolfe, N.A. Turnquist, F.G. Non-contact type mechanical seal Assignee: Nippon Pillar Packing Co Ltd, Japan

This invention covers a non-contact-type mechanical seal that prevents a rotary seal ring from vibrating in what is known as ‘pneumatic hammer fashion’. For this purpose, an annular space is formed between an outer circumferential surface of the rotary seal ring, and an inner circumferential surface of a holder portion of a spring retainer. The annular space is sealed by a pair of O-rings. In addition, sealgas leading passages are provided in the rotary seal ring through which spaces between the seal-end faces communicate with the annular space. A seal gas is supplied to the static pressure generating grooves, and is led into the annular space through the seal-gas leading passages. The seal gas presses the O-rings against the outer circumferential surfaces of the rotary seal ring and the inner circumferential surface of the holder portion of the spring retainer, thereby firmly holding the rotary seal ring. Sealed cable connection Applicant: Tycom (US) Inc, USA This sealed cable connection can be used to connect first and second cables to a sealed cable joint. The connection at one end of the sealed cable joint includes a cable socket body that is positioned within an inner region of a housing. This socket body includes a passageway which receives one of the cables. A seal securing member is positioned within the inner region of the housing, and fixed in contact with the cable socket body. At least one seal (such as a resilient metal seal) is compressed between the cable socket body and the seal securing member to seal against the inner surface of the housing. The sealed cable connection can also include a cable seal that is positioned around the cable and within the passageway of the cable socket body. Patent number: WO 02/063359 Inventors: M. Kordahi, D. Fuel-injection nozzle sealing elements Applicant: Siemens AG, Germany This invention relates to a fuel-injection nozzle for an internal combustion engine. The nozzle which is described, comprises a nozzle body, in which a nozzle needle with a stop is positioned so that it can be displaced, and a nozzle holder, in which a pressure pin is mounted (also, so that it can be displaced). A disc-shaped stop element is provided in a zone between the nozzle body and the nozzle holder. The nozzle body and the holder are axially braced against one another in
