seal may be based on a chevron-type design and/or other similar structures that have a sealing flange to form a radial seal. Patent number: WO/2013/016046 Inventors: D.J. Burns, D.M. Cloud, A.C. Jones and T.G. Boswell Publication date: 31 January 2013
Gasket string for sealing a vehicle door Applicant: Saargummi Technologies Sàrl, Luxembourg This invention relates to a gasket string for creating an effective seal between a vehicle’s door jamb and door. It has a fixing portion, preferably composed of a first elastomeric material which, together with a further portion (optionally, made from a second elastomeric material that is softer than the first elastomeric material), forms a tubular seal. The tube wall has openings arranged at intervals in the longitudinal direction of the string. According to the inventors, the openings are arranged such that in the installed position they are concealed by a circumferentially formed angled portion of the tube wall of the gasket string. Coated gasket Applicant: Toyota Jidosha Kabushiki Kaisha, Japan The gasket that forms the subject of this patent includes an inner plate (11), and a coating layer (12) formed on the upper and lower surfaces of this plate. Add-in material (13) (graphite) – which has a higher thermal conductivity than the material (nitrile rubber) in the coating layer – is added to the coating layer. This material has a spherical shape. The particles in this material have diameters equal to, or greater than, the thickness (t) of the coating layer (12). That is, one end of the add-in material (13) protrudes from the surface of the coating layer (12), while the other end is in contact with the surface of the inner plate. Patent WO/2013/014522 provides details of a coated gasket.
Sealant for a liquid crystal display cell Applicant: Nippon Kayaku Kabushiki Kaisha, Japan A light-curable, or heat-curable sealant, for use in a one-drop fill process forms the subject of this patent. Its use extends the service life of liquid crystal display (LCD) elements because it has a low tendency to contaminate liquid crystal. It also possesses good working efficiency because it remains stable when stored. This LCD sealant contains a curable resin and a thermosetting agent. The former contains a compound that has one or more acryloyl and methacryloyl groups in its molecular structure. Patent number: WO/2013/015182 Inventors: M. Hashimoto, K. Sugawara and N. Hasumi Publication date: 31 January 2013
Pipe connection apparatus Applicant: Narintech Co Ltd, Korea This invention relates to an apparatus for connecting pipes. It includes a circular, centre ring disposed on a coupling area between the two pipes. A guide ring is disposed in such a way that it surrounds both side surfaces of the centre ring (in a radial direction of the centre ring). A flange is coupled to a circumference portion of the endmost part of the two pipes, and is disposed on each of both sides of the centre ring and the guide ring. A clamping device disposed around the flange is used to press and fix the flange – connecting the pipes to each other and sealing them. Patent number: WO/2013/019009 Inventor: C.H. Han Publication date: 7 February 2013
Applicant: Carl Freudenberg Kg, Germany The sealing device described is designed to be mounted in a hole, or a similar opening. It aims to achieve a seal between the housing and element of a machine, such as an axis or rotating shaft. The seal comprises a support ring, including an axial flange, and a sealing washer that is disposed, or arranged on the support ring, and surrounds the axial flange along its external edge. A characteristic of this seal’s design is that the sealing washer projects beyond the free end of the axial flange, thus forming a protruding portion. The washer is preferably made from a composition containing polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). To reduce the tendency to creep, this composition can include fibres for reinforcement (for example, glass fibre) at least in the region associated with the axial wing. Cylinder-liner seal arrangement Applicant: Cummins Intellectual Property Inc, USA This invention concerns a cylinder-liner sealing arrangement for an internal combustion engine. In particular, it relates to a pressin-place and easily maintained liner seal for preventing the passage of coolant at the joint between the cylinder block and cylinder liner. A liner, within each cylinder bore, contains a circumferential cut-out formed in its upper and outer surfaces. A circular sealing ring, positioned in this cut-out, contacts at least the cylinder block and the cylinder liner to form a coolant seal. The sealing ring includes a seal-enhancing configuration formed on its outer circumferential surface. The configuration makes use of at least one arcuate portion of a ‘‘D-ring’’ seal or a plurality of circumferentially extending ribs. Patent number: WO/2013/019813 Inventors: J. Worthington, T.M.
