The n e w HSP 550-EM high density p u m p is a double piston p u m p with its p r e s s i n g a n d s u c t i o n strokes controlled by seat valves. In c o n v e n t i o n a l d o u b l e pist o n p u m p s b o t h hydraulic a n d delivery cylinders are separated by a w a t e r box. By incorporating d o u b l e w a l l e d c y l i n d e r s in the n e w model, Putzmeister has s u c c e e d e d in i n t e g r a t i n g the w a t e r b o x into the delivery cylinders. The advantage of this design s o l u t i o n is a substantial r e d u c t i o n in total length. This makes it m u c h easier to install HSP p u m p s in existing plants. The technical features of the HSP 550-EM m a i n l y reflect the c o n d i t i o n s of use in sewage works. The hardchromiump l a t e d delivery c y l i n d e r s are 180 m m in diameter and have a p i s t o n stroke of 500 m m ; the m a x i m u m p u m p pressure in the m e d i u m is 100 bar. Putzmeister conceived the HSP 550-EM specially for the delivery of highly d e w a t e r e d slurries a n d o t h e r non-aggressive thick m a t t e r w h i c h are difficult to deliver (up to 40% dry-solid c o n t e n t ) . The m a x i m u m o u t p u t is 8 m3/h. There is a choice of a 30 kW or 45 kW electro-hydraulic drive unit. By using standard assemblies and reducing the n u m b e r of different models Putzmeister e x p e c t s to b e able to p r o d u c e and m a r k e t the HSP 550-EM series in large volumes and at a competitive price.

Tests indicate that the 4200 will deliver u p to 20 g p m com-
pared to 14 g p m with the company's standard models. To achieve this,Fill-Rite engineers increased the p u m p ' s performance with a new motor design, w h i c h , in turn, allowed t h e m to i n c r e a s e the p u m p ' s bore size, a n d use a hose a n d nozzle with a 1 inch diameter. Fill-Rite is able to deliver this i n c r e a s e d f l o w rate u s i n g only 25 amps. This i m p r o v e m e n t represents a significant r e d u c t i o n in the a m o u n t of p o w e r r e q u i r e d b y o t h e r high-flow p u m p s , w h i c h typically draw a b o u t 40 amps from a vehicle's battery.
