V a c u u m news Custom model HE-113-52 combination Dri-Lab/Vac-Lab System The Combination System was designed and manufactured by Vacuum/Atmospheric Corporation for a United States Government Research Facility. The Dri-Lab incorporates four work stations with the standard ante-chamber on the left end. The floor area of the Dri-Lab measures 45" wide x 89" long. The system features a vacuum chamber measuring 30" ID x 36" long on the right side of the work chamber. This vacuum chamber has a work station with a full opening door into the Dri-Lab and is evacuated by a 15-cfm mechanical pump. A Standard Dri-Train mounted on the left side underneath the Dri-Lab recirculates in either or both the Dri-Lab and Vacuum sections and maintains an atmosphere purity level of one part per million oxygen and moisture. A Dri-Kool Refrigeration Unit is used to maintain a temperature control. Vacuum/Atmospheres Corporation, USA Circle number 54 on Reader Enquiry Service card
Space chamber tests under way Man's ability to work in space and on the moon is being studied by Lockheed Missiles & Space Company, using an altitude chamber capable of simulating the space vacuum which exists 320,000 feet up. In one-hour tests--four at 50,000 feet, and four at ground level-the Lockheed scientists performed simple tasks of threading nuts, torquing bolts and connecting electrical cables. Each test was concluded by a 20 minute walk inside the chamber. This was the first time that men have been used as subjects in the 18 by 18 by 36 foot chamber.
