Carpenter Tech alloy VP to retire Mark Kamon, senior vice president – commercial specialty alloy operations, plans to retire from Carpenter Technology at the end of the year Kamon joined Carpenter in November 2000 as president –Dynamet Incorporated, a Carpenter subsidiary. He has also served as vice president – International/Dynamet/ Carpenter Powder Products (CPP). Kamon also held
the position of senior vice president – advanced metals operations. “Mark’s extraordinary knowledge of the industry and his commercial expertise will be strongly missed,” said William A. Wulfsohn, Carpenter’s president and CEO. “We are thankful for his many years of service and wish both him and Christine the very best during their retirement years.”
Umicore and Evonik form electric partnership
Umicore and Evonik plan to supply Li-ion batteries for electric vehicles. Umicore and Evonik Group subsidiary Evonik Litarion GmbH have formed a business relationship to supply lithium-ion cathode materials. Evonik has selected Umicore as the supplier of cathode materials for largeformat Li-ion batteries that are used in electric vehicles and in energy storage systems for stationary applications. Evonik manufactures battery cell components for the batteries.

Umicore’s Cellcore MX, a Li-ion NMC (nickel, manganese, cobalt) cathode material, can help improve power, energy, safety and battery cycle life in electric vehicles, the company says. “Through its materials know-how, extensive production capacity, sustainable sourcing and manufacturing process, Umicore serves for us as an ideal partner for our business,” said Dr Henrik Hahn, spokesman of the board of management of Evonik Litarion GmbH. According toDr Kurt Vandeputte, senior business director for Umicore’s rechargeable battery materials business unit: “We are delighted to be selected by a major producer in the emerging European market for large-format lithiumion rechargeable batteries. NanoSteel names new president of automotive Craig Parsons has been appointed president of NanoSteel’s automotive segment. In this new role, Parsons, who brings more than 20 years experience in supply chain management, will lead NanoSteel’s automotive initiatives and promote the company’s Advanced High Strength Steel (AHSS) sheet. Parsons has worked in global supply chain solutions, manufacturing processes and new product development, and has held executive leadership roles at Gestamp and Noble International.
“Bringing in someone of Craig’s level and accomplishment represents a significant milestone for the company as we work to introduce our AHSS sheet steel across the automotive sector,” said David Paratore, NanoSteel president and CEO. “Craig’s [...] unique combination of skills will be integral to our overall growth strategy as we transition from sheet steel production trials and validation to working with our customers on specific commercial applications for automotive structural parts and components.”

SECO/WARWICK expands furnace business The SECO/WARWICK Group, a supplier of industrial equipment for metal heat processing, has bought furnace engineering specialist NESPI International GmbH. NESPI International GmbH specialises in retrofits, repairs, service and spare parts supplies for many types of furnaces. Together, the companies plan to strengthen their position in the German and western European markets. NESPI will
be renamed SECO/WARWICK Service GmbH as a result of the acquisition. “After our successful development in some key world markets, we would like to emphasize on our offer for our German-speaking customers now,” said Pawel Wyrzykowski, SECO/ WARWICK group CEO. “We are confident that [...] we will be able to offer our German customers an excellent service besides our highly developed furnaces.”
