Workshop Program Offered by AGP
Expanding on the "workshop"concept which has proved popular and highly productive in past programs, the Industrial Pharmaceutical Technology Section of the APhA Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences will sponsor five discussion group sessions during the annual meeting. Each discussion group will be devoted to a different topic of significant interest. The sessions will be held independently throughout the week beginning on Tuesday morning and concluding on Thursday afternoon, August 8. Each discussion group topic will be introduced by an ,a uthoritative speaker, and expert moderators will lead the open discussion periods. Daniel Banes will preside at Discussion Group I: "Expiration Dating and Storage Requirements" on Tuesday, August 6, at 9:00 a.m. in Parlor C (Williford), the Conrad Hilton. Ralph S. Levi will present the topic in an introductory talk. Discussion Group II will follow immediately at 10:15 a.m. on "International Pharmaceutical Research and Development." The Academy of General Practice of Pharmacy is teaming up with the University of Illinois colleges of pharmacy and nursing to present a unique annual meeting program to aid the practitioner in his patient education responsibilities. The half-day workshop program, entitled "Techniques of Dosage Form Administration-Phase of Patient Education," will be presented twice on Tuesday, August 6. Pharmacist-registered nurse teams will serve as moderators for workshops on both parenteral and nonparenteral dosage forms. Participants will learn proper administration techniques through the use of audiovisuals, demonstrations and models, and they will have an opportunity to actually practice many of the techniques. Practical methods for teaching patients will be stressed, and pharmacists will be encouraged to share with their colleagues their own experiences in educating patients. Pharmacist Kenneth F. Bober of the University of Illinois is coordinating the interdisci plinary program.

Arge Drubulis will preside and Larry Wheeler will present an introduction to the topic. "Pharmaceutical Research and Development's Responsibility to Protect In-line Products" is the subject of Discussion Group IV on Thursday, August 8, 9:00 a.m. in the Beverly Room of the Conrad Hilton. Arnold D. Marcus will address the issue and Saul Kornblum will lead discussion. The Discussion Group series will conclude with "Consumer Products-Their Development and Market Evaluation" at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, August 8, in the Beverly Room. Irwin Butensky will lead discussion following an introductory talk by Abe Trachtenberg. The series is designed to involve participants in a productive exchange of ideas and information in a flexible format. All annual meeting registrants are welcome.
