MOBILE THREE·TANK CLEANER

MULTI·FREQUENCY CLEANER

We show here a new mobile cleaner made by Interlab Inc., which incorporates rinsing in de-ionized water as well as cleaning under controlled temperature. Various combinations of tanks are available on this and larger frameworks. Re-circulating pumps and twin 50 kc/s generators are built in and to control the temperature, sensing probes in each tank are linked to the heaters. When liquid is not circulating the exact temperature of each rinse can be set on the front panel. Console top is formica covered and measures 130 cm x 65 cm. It can be completely covered by a plastics hood to keep out dirt. Interlah Inc., P.O. Box 38, Harmon-an-Hudson, N. Y., U.S.A.

Agitating the cleaning liquid at a wide band of frequencies cleans better, according to Crest Ultrasonics. The liquid in the two-tank cleaner model 905/1200 shown above is agitated over a band of frequencies from 20 kc/s to 90 kc/s.

is 100 n at 20 V and 50 n at other settings. Pulse width varies from 100 ns to 10 ms with rise and fall times of 10 ns and 15 ns respectively. Venner Electronics Ltd., Kingston Bypass, New Malden, Surrey, England.

BENCH TOP CLEANER As the first of a new range of cleaners, called Pulsatron, Kerry's (Ultrasonics) Ltd. now have available a bench-size cleaner, the KG 850. Later models will reach 2000 W average power and work at either 25 kc/s or 45 kc/s. The KG 850 delivers 850 W average into a 30-litre tank by means of nine sandwich transducers mounted to the underside of the tank floor. Each transducer consists of a lead zirconate titanate element mounted between aluminium blocks, one of which is a quarter wave in thickness. Power is delivered from a separate selftuning generator whose circuits are entirely solid state. Because the generator is self-tuning, the height of liquid and the nature of the components being cleaned are unimportant. And the generator is small and light enough (16 kg) to stand on the bench beside the tank. If higher powers are necessary, the generators can be coupled as a series of modular units. Operation is up to 160' C. Kerry's (Ultrasonics) Ltd., Warton Road, London, £.15.

Articles are first cleaned, then transferred to the second bath for a spray rinse and finally to a 9 m;3/min hot air dryer which is thermostatically controlled up to llO'C. Each bath measures 30 cm 50 cm x 25 ern. Corners are rounded for ease of cleaning. Water inflow to the cleaning bath is controlled by an automatic mixing valve, outflow by a motor-driven drain valve. There is also an automatic timer. The generator develops 1 kW average power. The whole is housed in a stainless steel cabinet 2·25 m< 0·5 m 0·9 m. SENSORS CONTROL SHOWERS Bathers entering the new swimming pool at Jarrow are required to take a shower. To make sure that they do so, two pairs of Sonac ultrasonic sensors have been fitted into walls of the corridor connecting the changing rooms to the pool and painted to match its surface. Unaffected by water or steam they operate the showers automatically. Bathers entering the corridor break the first beam of ultrasound and automatically switch on the shower. Only when they leave the corridor at the further end do they break a second beam which switches it off again. Alternatively the first pair of sensors can be set to run the shower for a preset time if bathers are continuously passing through, thus avoiding wear on the solenoid valves operating the taps. The sensors are made by Westool Ltd., Bishop Auckland, Co. Durham, England.

Pulsatron KG 850 can stand on a bench top or be built up as modular units. Kerry's (Ultrasonics) Ltd.

DOUBLE PULSE GENERATOR Single pulse generator from 2 cis to 2·5 Mc/s and double pulse from 2 cis to 2 Mc/s, the TSA 628 from Venner Electronics is still compact and robust. Components are silicon semiconductors and dimensions are 35 ern 10 cm 26 cm. The output switches from 20 V to 0·5 V in six steps; output impedance
