PATENTS Shaft seal packing for valve Applicant: Kitz Corp. Japan This patent covers a V-ring packing for valve stems. The V-rings have a non symmetrical geometry with a longer leg to the V on the inside diameter against the shaft. The base ring is symmetrical and the header has more offset than the V-rings. The purpose is to increase the radial loading of the V-rings against the shaft. Patent number: WO/2008/007685 Inventors: Y. Sugita and Y. Yamashita Publication date: 17 January 2008
Interface weld seal for low permeation flange of a fuel supply unit Applicant: Siemens VDO Automotive Corp. USA This describes a fitting to provide a similar function to WO/2008/008294 in which the O-ring is replaced by a weld. Patent number: WO/2008/008489 Inventors: P. Athalye et al. Publication date: 17 January 2008
Modular seal and valve assembly and method of operation Applicant: Erblan Surgical, Inc. USA A modular seal and valve assembly includes a seal and passageway. The device is designed to permit easier insertion of instruments without loss of gas during minimally invasive surgery. Patent number: WO/2008/008605 Inventor: E.E. Blanco Publication date: 17 January 2008
Seal
Asymmetric V-rings for valve stem packing designed to increase the sealing force.
Interface O-ring seal for low permeation flange of a fuel supply unit Applicant: Siemens VDO Automotive Corp. USA This patent is concerned with the provision of a low permeation fuel connector assembly that is also electrically conductive to avoid electrostatic voltage build up in the fuel system. The fuel port 16’ is electrically conductive. The flange section 20’ is over-moulded once the O-ring is fitted, providing a low permeation conductive assembly. Patent number: WO/2008/008294 Inventor: P. Athalye Publication date: 17 January 2008
A low permeation conductive seal assembly for vehicle fuel systems.

Sealing Technology
Applicant: Carl Freudenberg KG. Germany This patent describes a PTFE washer type lip seal that is designed to be economic to manufacture and provide improved fluid resistance by avoiding contact of the support body with the sealed fluid. The PTFE is bonded directly to the metal support, so that an additional injection moulding process is eliminated. It is also possible for the sealing element to be located such that the side of the support body facing towards the space to be sealed is covered hence exposing only the seal material to the sealed fluid. A number of design variants are illustrated. Patent number: WO/2008/009317 Inventors: D. Lutaud and M. Sitarz Publication date: 24 January 2008
can be varied by offsetting the layers by an amount. Patent number: WO/2008/009318 Inventor: W. Fritz Publication date: 24 January 2008
Seamless corrugated insert gasket Applicant: Virginia Sealing Products, Inc. USA This patent relates to a polymer gasket, such as PTFE with a corrugated metal insert layer. It provides a method for manufacturing such gaskets without a seam in the polymer, providing improved fluid resistance. Patent number: WO/2008/010081 Inventors: T.H. Ragsdale, R.A. Riggs and A.F. Waterland III Publication date: 24 January 2008
Pressure energized radial seal Applicant: Hydril Co LP, USA A seal assembly for a blow-out preventer is described that is intended to provide an effective seal at both low and high pressure. It is designed such that the seal can be separately pressurised if required. Patent number: WO/2008/011331 Inventor: M.W. Berckenhoff Publication date: 24 January 2008
Flat seal Applicant: ElringKlinger AG, Germany A multilayer metal head gasket is described in which the height of the stopper element (144)
This blow-out preventer seal can be pressurised through a port to the seal groove.
A section of the multilayer metal head gasket in which the stopper layer can be offset to adjust gasket compression.
