Control of particle size gives key to TiO, quality Recent development of a proprietary technology has enabled Millennium to achieve very tight control over the particle size and size distribution in manufacturing titanium dioxide. Particle size is seen as a critical factor in product quality. Collective distribution of particle sizes will determine the end-use performance, because it affects optical efficiency, tinting strength, opacity and gloss, Two new grades are the first results of this technology: Tiona RCL- 188 and A-2000. The RCL grade is a high performance r-utile chloride product for the plastics industry, offering maximum tint strength because the distribution of inefficient large and small particles has been minimized. The A-2000 grade is an anatase type for the paper industry, giving high opacity. FR masterbatch for PP fibres has good processability A new flame-retardant masterbatch for polypropylene fibre applications has been developed by Constab Polymer-Chemie GmbH, Germany. Designated COVP 96/074 FR, it shows very good performance at low addition levels, with superior processability and improved compatibility with polypropylene. It also has good UV light stability in combination with HALS stabilizers, with no change in colour or gloss. The corrosion ef. fect on machinery is also reduced. PATENTS W09616127 Siloxanes as heat and light stabilizers Rhone-Poulenc Chimie Priority date 18 November 1994; publication date 30 May 1996 Mixed polyorganosiloxanes having at least three siloxy units in the molecule, containing sterically hindered amine functions, are useful as heat and light stabilizers for polymers and have good compatibility. In a wide range of polymers they improve the resistance to degradation resulting from ultraviolet radiation, atmospheric oxygen and heat. The products have high molecular weight, excellent compatibility with the host polymer and good permanency of their stabilizing effect, JO8 109299 Vinyl chloride resin as moulding material Chisso Corporation Priority date 13 October 1994; publication date 30 April 1996 A vinyl chloride resin compound including 2-propylheptanoic acid metal salts and epoxy soybean oil compounds and phosphites
