Simrit is using the Reduced Friction by Nanotechnology (RFN) process to minimise adhesion and friction in elastomer composite parts such as the armatures in solenoid valves.

SKF fork seals enhance riding experience

S

KF has launched a series of seals for motorcycle forks. Based on a new self-lubricating compound developed by the company, the seals are targeted at aftermarket services. SKF says that its experience in the area of shock absorber seals has led to the development of a new seal that is designed to enhance the quality of the motorcyclist’s riding experience. Seals for motorcycle suspensions differ according to the application. Oil seals and wiper rings are found on the front fork, while mono-tube seals are usually used for the rear suspension and special seals for the steering damper. The design and performance characteristics of the seals made from the compound enable them to keep oil in, and contaminants out of, the fork, while virtually eliminating stickslip and improving performance by reducing friction. 4

Sealing Technology

riks has introduced four new compounds that combine chemical and low-temperature resistance while maintaining good sealing performance. FKM 514322 is a fluorelastomer with a TR 10 of -40°C, which is 10°C lower than conventional low-temperature compounds. Also available are PVMQ 714319, a phenyl silicone that is capable of tolerating temperatures down to -90°C and FFKM Kalrez 0040, a perfluorelastomer which is resistant to temperatures down to -42°C. The firm has also introduced a seal for cryogenic applications. Called Teflex Cryogenic, it comprises a 302 stainless-steel-wound ribbon spring, encapsulated in a FEP or PFA jacket.

Semiconductor wafer carrier uses Trelleborg technology

In tests, the sealing system, which was jointly developed by Trelleborg Sealing Solutions, was found to have a leakage rate below 0.1% – even after life-time testing of opening and closing cycles. Vital to the capsule’s function is its sealing system (patent pending). It consists of six com«œ˜i˜ÌÃ\Ê̅iÊvÀœ˜ÌÊÀˆ˜}ÆÊÀi>ÀÊ«>ÌiÆʏœVŽˆ˜}ÊÀˆ˜}ÆÊ and (making up the sealing system) three gaskets manufactured from specially developed sealing materials that are compatible with media commonly used in semiconductor processing. Seals are key to safety and reliability of ion sources

P Seals has helped Waters Corp create an award-winning family of liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC–MS) instruments. LC–MS is an analytical chemistry technique that combines the physical separation techniques of liquid chromatography with the mass analysis capabilities of mass spectrometry. Waters’ design brief was to develop a range of universal ion sources that could be interchanged by laboratory LC–MS users without using tools. The stability of the ion source is of vital importance to the instrument’s overall performance, so the user interface was key. The gas and solvent seals needed to be safe and reliable during instrument operation and at each source open or interchange.

relleborg Sealing Solutions has provided a sealing system for the Cyclop Sealing capsule that is capable of handling extremely thin semiconductor wafers. The capsule – from AP&S, a company that specialises in wet process systems for the semiconductor industry – is a newly developed one-size fits all media-tight carrying system for thin-wafer processing applications. It is designed to be suitable for use on any semiconductor fabrication line.
