Activated carbon and electrostatic fibre combined filter

PCI Membrane Systems Lfd has improved the versatility of their lab-scale membrane filtration pilot plant.

lmportex of Athens (Georgia, USA) has developed a unique filter media which makes use of two of the latest technological improvements in air filtration, acfivafed carbon and electrostatic fibre. The carbon adsorbs odours from the air while the electrostatic fibre attracts and holds small airborne allergens such as pollens, mould, fungal spores, bacteria, and viruses. Unlike most carbon activated media, lmportex attaches the carbon without using any adhesive resin. Resin can coat the carbon and retard its adsorption capability. The company has developed a way of applying the carbon to the media and keeping it in place without covering the carbon with a glue-like material. A much finer ground carbon is used than that which is found in traditional carbon activated media. Breaking the carbon down several generations further allows for a larger surface area of the carbon to be exposed to the airborne irritants and increases its odour adsorption capability. Using a smaller amount of carbon more efficiently provides for better adsorption without the mess typically associated with carbon media. The media has an inexpensive price (under $0.40 per square foot), and ASHRAE rating of 80% arrestante 11% avg, dust spot, 0.10 wg initial resistance @ 300 fpm, allowing it to be used either by itself or in conjunction with other media. The media can also be used in carbon air filtration, industrial and commercial settings, antimicrobial composites, and air purification systems. lmportex of Athens, Box 1628, GA 30605, USA. technology for melt blow filters The Filterite Division of Memtec has launched its Nexis series of advanced melt blown filter cartridges, Incorporating the patent pending COLD (Co-located Large Diameter) fibre technology, the Nexis filter claims to offer precise, repeatable filtration, previously unachievable with conventional technologies. By intermingling COLD fibre with fine filtration fibre, Memtec has created a filter optimised for filtration efficiency with superior strength to resist unloading under dynamic conditions. Nexis cartridges are available in removal ratings from 0.5 to 200 microns and continuous lengths from 4” to 40”. Memfec America, Filterite Division, 2033 Greenspring Drive, Timonium, MD 21093, USA. Further U for Houseman Houseman has appointed Qualichem as manufacturer and distributor for PermaCare RO chemicals in the United States. The company from Roanoke, Virginia, will also provide support package for Houseman.

a

The agreement allows Qualichem to manufacture and distribute specialty antiscalants, biocides and membrane cleaners for RO, nanofiltration and using ultrafiltration Houseman formulations marketed under the PermaCare name. Whilst Qualichem will look after PermaCare interests on the East Coast of the United States, Houseman is looking for a firm for a similar agreement covering the West Coast. Smallest cut of Meltog has adapted its STM200 Filter Tube Making machine to enable cut offs down to 32 mm. This allows the production of filter tubes 30% shorter than before. The STM200 uses a spiral lock seam which resuits in a high strength core with up to 30 bar collapse strength. The machine will work with both plain and preperforated material and produce tubes with diameters from 25 to 45 mm. Meltog Precision Engineers, Gelderd Road, Birstall, West Yorkshire, WF17 9LW, UK.
