NKE develops bearing unit for pump applications In collaboration with a large pump maker, the bearing manufacturer NKE has developed a new modular system for bearing arrangements to rationalise a complete pump family. NKE decided to manufacture a module of twelve different sizes for fixed and non-locating bearing positions, ensuring that there was easy mounting and dismounting of the bearing unit on the shaft and the pump casing without a need for
special mounting instruments. NKE succeeded in developing a bearing arrangement composed of six components. For the whole pump family consisting of 48 different models, only 21 different types of angular contact ball bearings and deep groove ball bearings were used. On the locating bearing position, pairs of angular contact ball bearings were applied in order to resist high loads and to guarantee a long service life.

Instead of individual installation, NKE found a way to mount the bearing pairs into the pumps as entire units.

instead of several single parts. This also simplifies the spare part service. Thanks to lifetime lubrication the maintenance costs are virtually eliminated, and the rationalisation of the bearing arrangements also decreases production costs, NKE reports.
Software development kit for fluid piping systems A software development kit (SDK) has been launched by Engineered Software Inc to work in conjunction with the company’s PIPE-FLO Professional program. According to Engineered Software, PIPE-FLO is used by designers and operators to gain a clear picture of their fluid piping systems. The program allows users to visualize their systems in a familiar format, calculate system operations, easily communicate the design with others and access supporting documents in electronic format. The SDK is also suitable for organizations which are developing similar products that could make use of PIPE-FLO, the company reports.
