Special Issue on Coding and Cryptography This Special Issue is devoted to papers written by participants in the International Workshop on Coding and Cryptography (WCC 2003) held at INRIA-Rocquencourt, Versailles, France, March 24–28, 2003. This Workshop was the third in a series of workshops on Coding and Cryptography (WCC) devoted to algebraic coding theory, combinatorial properties of codes and mathematical problems of cryptology. This Special Issue is also the third publication of papers originating from these workshops. The papers in the Special Issue can be divided into four areas. One of these is Boolean functions and Reed–Muller codes. The workshops in this series have traditionally attracted researchers studying both bent functions and combinatorial and geometric problems related to Reed–Muller codes. This Special Issue contains four papers in these topics. A few papers are devoted to the mainstream coding-theoretic problems such as decoding of general linear codes, equivalence of Goppa codes, cyclic codes, and codes over rings. The Special Issue includes a large number of papers on cryptography themes, including signature, authentication, secret-sharing, and key assignment schemes, and aspects of multi-party computation. A few other papers are devoted to other subjects closely related to the above topics. The reviewing process has been handled by an Edition Committee composed of Alexander Barg, Henri Gilbert, Torleiv Kløve, Jim Massey, Gilles Zemor and the Guest Editors. The following experts had an important role in the evaluation process: Ian Blake, Carlo Blundo, Francis Castro, Chin-Chen Chang, Ivan Damgaard, Marten van Dijk, Cunsheng Ding, Philippe Gaborit, Pierrick Gaudry, Marc Girault, Tor Helleseth, Marc Joye, Jonathan Katz, Sang Jin Lee, Francoise Levy-dit-Vehel, Pierre Loidreau, Gary McGuire, Tatsuya Maruta, Barbara Masucci, Jean François Misarsky, Sara (Miner) More, Alexander Nechaiev, Dimitri Nogin, Pascal Paillier, Matthew Parker, Kenny Paterson, Lancelot Pecquet, Ruud Pellikaan, Josef Pieprzyk, B. Sundar Rajan, Hugues Randriambololona, Tomas Sander, Hans Georg Schaathun, Berry Schoenmakers, Joseph H. Silverman, Cédric Tavernier, Jacques Traoré, Wen-Guey Tzeng, Xian-Mo Zhang and Victor Zinoviev. The Guest Editors would like to thank the team of Associate Editors, the reviewers, and of course the authors for submitting high-quality research papers that make the Special Issue a valuable source of new results and problems in coding and cryptography. They also express their gratitude to Professor Peter L. Hammer, the Editor-in-Chief of Discrete Applied Mathematics, for proposing that the papers arising from WCC 2003 be published in this journal and for his kind help.
