Specialist Periodical Reports, Organometallic Chemistry Volume 10, E.W. Abel and F.G.A. Stone (Senior Reporters), The Royal Society of Chemistry, 1982, 464 + xviii pages, JZ77.00, U.S.$ 160.00. The SPR on Organometallic Chemistry is one of the most important tertiary sources of information in our discipline. The latest volume, covering the literature for 1980, is written by the same authors and, indeed, the chapter headings are similar to those of Volume 9. There is the usual substantial author index and the extent of the literature covered may be gauged by the fact that this index runs to thirtyfour pages. As usual, the emphasis is more on the preparation, characterisation, and reactions of organometallic compounds, rather than their use in synthesis or catalysis, although there is a chapter by Dr. C. White dealing with homogeneous catalysis by transition-metal complexes, which topic is covered in thirtyfive pages. The level of production is up to the usual high standards and the book can be warmly recommended_ School of Chemistry and Molecular Sciences, Uniuersiiy of Sussex, Brighton BNl 9QJ (Great Britain)
