The focus on maintaining an active lifestyle has expanded the number of injuries that historically occurred primarily in collegiate and professional athletes. In addition, the intensity at which high school and intramural sports are played has increased, resulting in a higher demand on the foot and ankle for this population as well. Many injuries in the foot and ankle result in significant disability for the recreational and professional athlete. Both operative and nonoperative sports medicine physicians are at the frontline when dealing with many of the conditions discussed in this Clinics in Sports Medicine. This active patient population expects minimal downtime while maximizing their ability to return to play. Our aim was to provide an up-to-date review of foot and ankle sports–related topics to achieve these goals for our patients. The authors in this issue of Clinics in Sports Medicine are experts in dealing with sports-related injuries and pathology of the foot and ankle. By sharing the knowledge and experience of our colleagues, each of us can expand our ability to understand and treat these conditions. I would like to commend the authors on the tremendous time and effort that they put forth in preparation of their articles.
