NEWS The company says that it is introducing over 180 additional part numbers with outer diameters of 1–12 inches (25.4–304.8 mm). The enhanced range is now becoming available, serving various fluid-power applications, including off-highway, materials handling, industrial machines, mobile hydraulics and agricultural equipment. Tom Zozokos, Engineering and Product Manager at Trelleborg Sealing Solutions, said: ‘Trelleborg’s expertise with injection moulding means that HiMod Slydring HC wear rings have been engineered to meet the demanding requirements of hydraulic applications.’ HiMod refers to a range of high-modulus plastic materials developed internally for applications demanding high wear and chemical resistance performance. The configuration of the HiMod Slydring HC absorbs transverse forces and prevents metal-to-metal contact between components. HiMod Slydring HC rings are ideal for use in a variety of operational conditions, says Trelleborg. They have high compressive strength and wear resistance, even at elevated temperatures, provide low friction performance in lubricated settings and are easy to install because of their simple closed-grooved design. They also eliminate local stress concentrations, fretting and seizure, whilst damping mechanical vibrations and protecting against dieseling and hydrodynamic pressure problems. According to the company, the consistent parts quality and performance of HiMod Slydring HC wear rings reduces installation times and increases wear life between changeovers, which make these products ideal for manufacturers of hydraulic cylinders. Hybrid, emergency repair adhesive creates highly durable bonds
H
enkel has developed a five-minute-curing, general-purpose repair adhesive for a wide variety of metals, plastics, wood and rubber materials. Based on the company’s patented hybrid technology, the adhesive called LOCTITE HY 4060 GY provides universal adhesion and achieves a fast cure through a large gap, excellent structural and environmental durability. Because it cures so quickly, under a wide range of operating conditions and even at low

temperatures, it is the ideal choice for fast and effective repair-work, says the firm. It is also capable of filling gaps – up to 5 mm - and provides excellent resistance to moisture, temperature extremes and chemicals. Described as a universal structural bonding adhesive, this single product is suitable for multiple applications – meeting most maintenance bonding needs. Compared with its nearest competitor, it also has significant advantages for multi-substrate bonding and is capable of far greater durability at elevated temperatures, says Henkel. It is particularly effective where a fast fixture is required on structures with variable gaps and mixed substrates. LOCTITE HY 4060 GY is supplied in a 25 ml ready-to-use pack. Inpro/Seal VB45-S bearing isolator receives award
I
npro/Seal’s VB45-S bearing isolator has been awarded Processing magazine’s 2017 Breakthrough Products Award. According to the designer and manufacturer of engineered systems and bearing protection products for rotating equipment used in a variety of industries, the VB45-S (Sealing Technology April 2017, page 16) won this award for being influential and innovative technology that has made contributions to the process industries within the past year. The ‘Processing Breakthrough Products Awards’ recognise manufacturers that develop novel systems and products to help manage and navigate tough processing environments, and meet changing standards for modern processing facilities. The awards, 10 of which were presented in 2017, celebrate major innovations as well as incremental improvements that increase efficiency, productivity and, ultimately, the bottom line. The Inpro/Seal VB45-S continues the firm’s line of industry-leading bearing isolator designs that increase equipment reliability through permanent bearing protection. Like all bearing isolators developed by the company this design protects against contamination ingress and lubrication loss. For further information, visit: Web: www.inpro-seal.com
SPX Flow contracted to establish dairy ingredients plant in Spain
U
S-based SPX Flow Inc, which engineers, designs, manufactures, and markets products used to process, blend, filter, dry, meter, and transport fluids, is currently involved in a project that will see it establishing a dairy ingredients plant in Galicia, Spain. According to the company, the contract, worth $60 million, calls for it to design and provide a completely integrated system that maximises return on skimmed milk by manufacturing high-value dry dairy components. It is anticipated that the plant will begin operating in early 2020. The greenfield project will have the capacity to process milk using membrane systems for milk fractionation and drying technology to produce milk protein powders for infant formula, sports and clinical nutritional products.

Teesside process sector employer group collaborates on apprentice training
I
n the UK, a group of Teesside employers in the science industry – led by SABIC UK Petrochemicals – is collaborating to provide process sector apprentices with specialist pipeline connection technical training and competencies. The group has partnered with TTE Training Ltd as the main training provider and is also working with Flexitallic UK Ltd’s Academy of Joint Integrity, which has a training facility on Teesside, on process safety and joint integrity. Alongside SABIC in the group are Lotte Chemical, Huntsman, CPI, Chemoxy, Invista, Venator and Cogent Skills. A programme of training modules, delivered by the academy at its facility in Riverside Industrial Park, encompass safety, flange assembly, and hand and hydraulic torque tightening, which is underpinned by an insight into gasket technology within the process industries. The academy is providing this programme as a complementary service after completing a training project for SABIC in recent months. The academy offers ECITB/Energy Institute Certified Training Courses in flange assembly and sealing technology and is a member of various UK and international working groups to ensure the latest best practice is integrated into a unique range of modules. Its training is delivered at various locations and on clients’ sites by qualified training instructors with extensive site experience. Gary Milne, Academy Training Director, Academy of Joint Integrity, said: ‘Providing this training to the apprentice group in the unique field of loss of containment prevention ensures all the technical standards developed for industry are transferred to future generations of technicians. This will help the apprentices underpin the compliance and competence skills they are gaining for their careers in the process sector.’ ‘The support we have received from TTE and our relationship with SABIC has been really beneficial in the delivery of these skills and competencies.’ For further information, visit: Web: www.academyofjointintegrity.com,
