APPLICATIONS Personal care products Karnataka Soaps bets on Indian mart with luxurious toilet soap The state-owned Karnataka Soaps & Detergents Ltd has introduced a soap under the brand name Mysore Sandal Millennium priced at Rup 720/150 gm in the Rup 300 M (c €4.6 M) superpremium soap market. The market for premium toilet soaps in India is estimated at more than Rup 10 bn/y. Mysore Sandal Millennium, which is being launched after two years of research, contains exclusive vegetable oils mixed with special conditioners, moisturizers, vitamin E, Jojoba-Mimosa and pure sandalwood oil. The company also plans to introduce a 30 gm pack priced at Rup 125. The soap will be marketed through 5-star hotels, hypermalls and super bazaars. Karnataka Soaps & Detergents plans to export the soap to the USA, the UK, Malaysia and West Asian markets, where the company has already conducted test marketing. EU probes ingredient chemical safety The European Chemicals Agency has revealed a list of 91 substances that will be evaluated by EU national governments, coordinated by the agency, under the EU’s REACH regulation. Specialists will investigate until 2013 the safeness of these chemicals, which are potentially utilized in personal care products. Henkel erecting logistics centre in Perm region of the Urals Henkel is investing Roubles 500 M (more than €12 M) in erecting a logistics centre near its production plant in the Perm region of the Urals. Commissioning is due in Apr 2012 and the facility will have an area of 12,500 m2. Henkel is one of the biggest suppliers of dry detergents in Russia.
