Flowserve inaugurates new pump plant in Brazil
F
lowserve Corp has officially opened its state-of-the-art pump manufacturing facility in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Located in Rio’s Campo de Grande Industrial Area, the new 15 000 sq m plant will manufacture a range of Flowserve pumps, and offer 6 MW test stand capacity and full parts, service and training capabilities. “We are proud of this new facility and believe it sends a positive message to the marketplace and our customers that Flowserve is committed to Brazil and the entire Latin America region,” said Mark Blinn, Flowserve president and CEO. More than 350 employees will work at the new facility when the transition from the existing Rio de Janeiro plant, which opened in 1941, is completed later this year. “Localisation of our products and services is a key component of our Flowserve strategy,” said Tom Pajonas, Flowserve chief operating officer. “This plant demonstrates our continuing drive to serve our customers in the best way possible.” “We are excited to have been able to design this facility with the latest technological innovations for our manufacturing processes in mind,” said Fabian Mamia, president, Flowserve Latin America Operations. “Not only are we able to meet the needs of our customers today, but the facility helps position us for continued growth and future opportunities.” For further information, visit www.flowserve.com
Grundfos half-year turnover up 6%
G
rundfos Group turnover increased 6% in the first half of 2012 to DKK10.7 billion while profit before tax at DKK779 million was slightly down on last year’s DKK783 million. Carsten Bjerg, Grundfos Group president, said that it was a satisfactory result. “According to our expectations, our sales don’t grow at the same pace as earlier. The 16

development has been impacted by difficult conditions in several markets. Not only is the growth negative in great parts of Southern Europe, but also markets which have traditionally been characterised as strong markets in the rest of Europe, are now marked by recession. On the positive side we see significantly improved results in major markets like Russia and the United States, just as markets in Asia and the Middle East have contributed significantly to the total growth of the Group,” said Bjerg. For the full 2012 year, the Grundfos president still expects growth, with significant results from new products. “Never before have we had so great expectations to the sale of new products as today when we are ready to yield the fruit of the recent years’ investments in product development. Some of the products have already been launched and more are in the pipeline, and I am confident that this will help us during hard times,” added Berg. For further information, visit www.grundfos.com
Strike to hit Curtiss-Wright FY2012 results
C
urtiss-Wright Corp says that a strike by 300 workers at the company’s Flow Control segment’s Electro-Mechanical Division (EMD) facility in Cheswick, Pennsylvania, will likely have a significant adverse impact on the company’s fiscal 2012 financial results. Contractual agreements expired between EMD and its two local unions – Local Union 1914 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and the Association of Westinghouse Salaried Employees (AWSE) District 16, an affiliate of the Federation of Independent Salaried Unions (FISU) – on 18 August 2012. While members of the AWSE continued to work throughout the negotiation process, members of the IBEW elected to initiate a work stoppage following Curtiss-Wright’s initial wage offer. The strike has now ended and union members have started to return to work. The EMD facility remained open throughout the strike. For further information, visit curtisswright.com
