Submission of manuscripts to Corrosion Science on line

In common with most science journals, Corrosion Science is changing to an online manuscript submission system. The system is that used by all Elsevier journals and is designed to be friendly to all users of the system, authors and referees alike. In order to make the changeover as easy as possible for authors, I intend to retain the traditional system of submitting three paper copies in parallel for the time being. The traditional paper method will be phased out slowly, over a period of about two years. It is nevertheless hoped that authors will brave the new system as soon as it becomes available. Many authors will have had experience already of online submission with other journals. The online submission system for Corrosion Science will become available and active for use on December 1 2007. You can gain access to the system by going to https://ees.elsevier.com/corsci A major advantage of the new online submission system is that the process should be more efficient, with papers being handled faster for editorial work and for review procedures. Bypassing the postal system will in itself improve efficiency and speed of communication. A consequence of online submission is, of course, that I will make requests for referee reports on line by email. To access the paper for review you will need to accept the request to do so on line. The referee report can then be submitted to me direct through the online system. Confidentiality and anonymity will, of course, be preserved throughout the review procedure. Authors are reminded that it is a duty of publishing scientists to peer-review the work of others, and this is specified in the Instructions to Authors of the journal. Requests for review should be responded to promptly. The peer review is critical for any learned journal, and co-operation in this peer review procedure is vital. I do hope the new system will not prove difficult and look forward to working with our authors and reviewers. G.
