COSPAR Session F4.9 consisted of two invited and five contributed oral presentations of research to develop procedures for cycling renewable resources in a Controlled Ecological Life-Support System (CELSS). The presentations addressed issues of evaluating alternative pathways for biomass conversion during the processing of edible crop biomass into nutritious and palatable vegetarian diets or during the degradation of organic waste materials from crop production or food processing into renewable resources. Combining physico-chemical and biological processes for the efficient conversion of biomass in a CELSS was the emphasis of these presentations.
