Self-help for people who stutter proves a powerful tool in improving the lives of people concerned in many respects. The presentation describes how people who stutter benefit from self-help and how national stuttering associations collaborate within the European League of Stuttering Associations and the International Stuttering Association. Special emphasis will be given to cooperation with professionals. ELSA and ISA have three key objectives: to provide a forum for the exchange of concepts and experiences in stuttering and selfhelp; to represent the interest of stutterers to associations of speech language pathologists and European and international bodies; and outreach.
