Superovulation of Barbari goats with Folltropin: The effect of dose

objective of this study was to compare the superovulatory response of
Barbari
goats to three different doses (12, 14 and 16 qg) of a purified ISH compound Yolltropin (Vetrepharm Inc., London, Ontario, Canada). Estrus was synchronized using intravaginal sponges impregnated with 30 qg Plugestone acetate (Chronogest, Intervet, Emxmeer , Holland) for 12 days. All the does received 125 pg i,m. of Cloprostenol (tzstrumate, Coopers, Ontario, Canada) at the time of insertion as well as at removal of the sponge. Does were treated with a 4-day declining dose scheme of Polltropin administered as eight i.m. injections every 12 h, begining at 46 h before sponge rewaval. Group (Gr) I does were given 12 mg lolltropin (2.25, 2.25, 1.75, 1.75, 1.25, 1.25, 0.75, and 0.75 qg). Group II does were given 14 mg Polltropin (2.5, 2.5, 2.0, 2.0, 1.5, 1.5, 1.0 and 1.0 lgj. Group III does were given 16 mg folltropin (2.75, 2.75, 2.25, 2.25, 1.75, 1.75, 1.25 and 1.25 ng). All animals exhibited estrus 24 to 30 h after removal of the sponge. To ensure ovulations,750 IU i.m. of hCG (Chorulon, Intervet, Boueer, Holland) was administered within 3 h of estrus. Does were hand mated at 0, 12, 24 and 36 h of estrus. The mmber of corpora luteae and large i ) 1 cm) unovulated follicles were counted and the oviducts were flushed after performing mid-ventral laparotomy 45 h after the of estrus. a.b numbers in a row with different corresponding signs are significantly different (P ( 0.05) Data were analyzed by ANOVA. There were no differences (P ( 0.05) between the treatment groups in any of the parameters except the number of CL, however 14 rg of Folltropin appeared to be near optimal dose. Polltropin was effective in the superovulation of Barbari goats. There was no reduction in embryo quality at higher doses.
