This is a new and comprehensive multiauthored text by experts in the broad range of issues affecting neurosurgical critical care. It provides state-of-theart chapters organized by each major system encountered on daily ICU rounds. It also includes chapters specifically addressing each of the typical neurosurgical disease states encountered, as well as specialty chapters addressing issues in pediatrics and withdrawal of care. The chapters are well organized, very readable, and include excellent references. This text is a worthwhile read for all neurosurgeons and is an outstanding value. John P. The purpose is to “. . . assist in the education and training of young surgeons with an interest in the spine.” The text is divided into seven sections covering core knowledge, pediatric disorders, degenerative disorders, traumatic injuries, neoplasms, inflammatory disorders, and postoperative considerations. The contributing authors are wellknown experts in spinal surgery. They have succeeded in producing a readable, succinct text covering a broad topic clearly and concisely and in so doing makes it approachable.
