Tabular architecture and new tubular shapes used in structural applications GCrard Nicaud TUBEUROP Company (France) Immeuble Pacifique, TAS 20002, 92070 La DCfence cedex, France Paper Number 233 Full paper on enclosed CD-ROM
Since the late 60’s, the use of tubular structures has been increasing on a regular basis. The main reasons are the very favourable resistance properties of this product under some stresses, but also its very aesthetic aspect which is widely appreciated. From the great emblematic achievements of the 60’s using innovating space structures or wide spans, to the more ordinary works of the end of this century symbolizing an architectural longing for more lightness and more space, the tubular products have enabled the architects and designers to express differently and to create artistic trends which make our daily life more pleasant. To support the architects’ creativity, TUBEUROP is involved in the production of new shapes of tubular products, commercializing a range of elliptical structural tubes (TPS DESIGN) and developing further shapes. These innovative products have all the properties of hot-finished tubes. The Pointe-LPitre airport (Guadeloupe), the numerous projects of schools, restaurants, shops, offices, museums, individual houses, indoor fittings, street furniture, are as many achievements carried out with a touch of innovation and new aesthetics. Often associated with glass, the TPS DESIGN section provides additional fluidity to the steel tube structure. Increasing the dialogue with the designers in order to favour innovation and to go further than the ordinary product, that is TUBEUROP’s wish to make our environment more pleasant. 0 1998 Published by Elsevier Science Ltd.
