Dick Behles: "'a drum player in local music groups."
The periodical literature of Business forms the theme for this issue of Serials Review. A collection of journals from a broad range of related fields has been surveyed here including Management, Finance, Marketing, Industrial Psychology, International Business and Retail Business. The work of selecting titles, contacting reviewers, and assembling copy was energetically undertaken by Richard J. Behles, Serials Librarian at The Loyola/Notre Dame Library, Inc, in Baltimore, MD. A frequent contributor to SR, Behles has previous library experience at St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia gained during his study towards an MLS at Drexel. His extra-library activities include a fascination with woodworking and frequent appearances as a drum player in local music groups. To meet our deadlines Behles had to do a bit of "catch up" work for which we want to offer our especial thanks both to him and to those who prepared reviews for him. Additional reviews that we believe our readers will want to carefully examine include a review essay on ethnic periodicals prepared by Marshall Nunn and a Feature Survey on Movie Magazines contributed by Michael Randall at UCLA.
taking care of business Both offer recommendations of titles that libraries may now be overlooking. SR's first themed issue appeared in 1979. Its topic was Sports: subsequent themed issues viewed Library Science and Women's Studies. We have learned during the past year that it is enormously difficult to coordinate an entire theme issue throughout our columns. This is largely due to the fact that our Editors and Columnists are engaged in other full time activities and do SR work as a professional contribution. Nonetheless, response to themed issues has been so favorable that we will continue the practice and strive to expand coverage as we can, The next two issues will focus on Literary Magazines and Native American Literature. We are planning issues on Agriculture and Children's Periodical Literature and hope to assign an Editorship on Music soon. We eagerly seek contributors, columnists, and issue editors and invite our readers to apply for these positions and/or recommend possible candidates to us. Your comments and criticisms are always welcome. NJM
