Although this book is listed as a new edition, the addition of new editors, authors, and chapters make it essentially a new book. The text is divided into five sections containing 25 chapters. Each chapter is followed by an extensive reference list, and many also provide information about background literature not cited. Enormous changes have occurred in the management of oral and maxillofacial injuries in the past decade and these are reflected in the current edition of this classic text. There are new and expanded chapters on the initial management, assessment, and resuscitation of the injured patient, internal fixation, diagnostic imaging, and temporomandibular joint injuries, as well as the management of extensive craniofacial injuries. Also included are discussions of the role of microsurgical reconstruction, and prosthetic rehabilitation. While considerable new material has been added, reliable old techniques have not been omitted.
