do love technology! I love fancy sewing machines, plasma TV screens, and seat warmers in my car. I relish using cell phones and wireless computers so I can work sitting on my deck. So it was particularly exciting for me to find that every issue of the Journal for Nurse Practitioners is also available in an electronic format. We know that many of you have already made the transition to electronic media as a way of easily accessing and storing your journals as well as avoiding clutter. For a limited time, nurse practitioners (NPs) who return the card requesting JNP to be sent to them will also be able to access the electronic copy of each issue without cost. The electronic version of JNP (www.npjournal.org) is the only NP journal completely available in both hard copy and electronic versions. Although that is a valuable contribution, it also contains some unique features that will be of special interest to both clinicians and researchers. These features include the following: • Special search capabilities that allow you to view the full text of some Elsevierpublished articles cited in the feature articles • Search options that allow you to review a bibliography of other articles written by the same author • Ability to access Mosby’s Drug Consult database for additional information about medications mentioned in the articles • On-line surveys in which readers may share opinions and ideas • Vital links to other NP resources • Free professional continuing education credits with availability of immediate certificate of credit These sophisticated processes are offered through the resources of the journal’s publisher, Elsevier. Although we were pleased that the NP audience seems to like this journal, we are also pleased to find that Elsevier has warmly welcomed JNP into their publishing family. The “home” with Elsevier means that JNP participates with the 450 other professional journals and clinics published by Elsevier in the technologic advances now being made in publishing. The journal joins other prestigious publications such as the American Journal of Cardiology, American Journal of Medicine, Journal of Emergency Nursing, Annals of Emergency Medicine, Heart & Lung, Journal of Professional Nursing, The Lancet, Medical Clinics, Nursing Clinics, and Nursing Outlook. New technology also underlies the editing process. Elsevier has a complete electronic editorial review system by which submitted manuscripts are entered, reviewers make their comments, and manuscripts are edited and submitted for publication. All of this speeds up the publishing process and allows the most accurate and timely information to be published. We have received lots of feedback from readers responding to our first few issues. We welcome your suggestions, comments, and participation. We have already profited by many of your ideas for new features to include. Come, see how this new technology works, and participate in the writing or reviewing process.
